    Located in the southern part of Jintan city, Jiangsu Province, Changdang Lake, with an area of 85 km2, is a typical shallow plant lake in the Tai Lake basin. With a perennial water depth of about 1.2 m and high quality water which is suitable for the growing of mitten crabs, the lake is teeming with thick aquatic plants as well as various fishes, shrimps, crabs and shells. It is the largest non-pollution mitten crab breeding base of Jiangsu province, and has been certified by the Agriculture Department as the “The hometown of Chinese Mitten Crab” and “Dominant Exported Mitten Crab Breeding Base in Middle and Lower Yangtze Region”. The mitten crabs in Changdang Lake are of big size, black back, white belly and golden pincers. They are bright in color and rich in nutrition, having already acquired the mark of the first national non-pollution agricultural product.
